For those companies that have a worldwide or regional vision of their businesses, the protection of its intangible assets is essential whether they operate directly or through their licensees.
When handling Industrial Rights for the whole region, it is very important to bear in mind international treaties signed by each one of the countries. These treaties might favour the registration of these rights and the time involved in the whole procedure.

Multi class system: this system allows the filing of one trademark application for various classes in one sole registry.
Andean Pact: Favours economical cooperation and the registration of trademark and patents among its members.
Madrid Protocol: helps trademark registration through a centralized system.
Patent Cooperation Treaty- PCT: helps patent applications for all member countries due to an initial unique application and procedure.
In this sense, an adequate planification for the protection of these rights generates direct benefits and avoids future problems that when dealing with them are considerably time and cost consuming.
